Moosa: PSL Is A Comedy & Horror Show

Moosa: PSL Is A Comedy & Horror Show

Smiley Moosa

Former Sundowns player Essop 'Smiley' Moosa has questioned the standard of the PSL following the weekend's games.

Moosa, who was a skilful player and as talented as his younger brother Zane, was unimpressed after watching the game showcasing Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.

Amakhosi defeated the Dube Birds 1-0 courtesy of Christian Saile's late goal at the Dobsonville stadium.

The Soweto derby win saw Chiefs moving into 6th place on the Premiership log but Moosa believes that it wasn't the best game to watch.

The Good

"I am 71 years old but you would be amazed to see how I can still play at my age. I outrun players who are 18 and 19 years old and nobody has got my skill. I play more than 90 minutes at 71. There are people who tell me that I should go and show the younger ones in the PSL how to play football. I am always moving on the soccer field and when I have the ball something always happens. I am the most experienced footballer in this country. If you see me play, you will get the shock of your life.

"I am sad in looking at how the standard of our football has dropped. There was a guy called McDonald 'Rhee' Skhosana who played for Pirates and he was a top striker and that's when football used to be exciting in those days. I was 16 when I played against him for Sundowns. They beat us 2-1 and he scored the two goals for them and I scored the one for us. This country has never seen a player like me and I am prepared to teach South Africa how to play football. Mario Tuani said I was the best footballer he had ever seen," said Moosa.

The Bad

"I hold no grudges against anybody but I have an opinion with regards to our football and I feel the standard has dropped and it is a joke. I watched the game between Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs on the weekend and it was like a comedy show. None of those players looked like they understand football. For me, Mamelodi Sundowns are an overrated average team. The way the standard of our football has dropped is a joke," he said.

The Ugly

"South African football is boring. The game between Swallows and Chiefs is proof of what I am talking about. The PSL has become a horror show. Today's players do not understand football and they need to be held. Where is our football going with all these people who are in charge? Our football isn't going to improve if we don't talk about these things. United we stand, divided we fall," concluded Moosa.
