Vilakazi Addresses Makhubela's Showboating Against Pirates

Vilakazi Addresses Makhubela's Showboating Against Pirates

Golden Arrows co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has given his take on the showboating by Orlando Pirates loanee Ntsako Makhubela during his side's 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates.

Makhubela was loaned out to Arrows in early January after not featuring at all for the Buccaneers since Jose Riveiro took over at the beginning of the season.

The 28-year old has already made two starts for Abafana Bes'thende and was in the line-up against his parent club on Saturday.

After the Sea Robbers took the lead through Monnapule Saleng just before the half-hour mark, Makhubela resorted to showboating to encourage his team to get back into the game. Although the diminutive midfielder's tricks in Pirates' half led to Arrows losing possession, Vilakazi says he did not have a problem with his showboating.

Vilakazi says Makhubela was trying to lift the confidence of the team.

"Honestly I didn't have a problem with that, I think the first half our team was struggling in terms of being motivated and having confidence," 'VV', as the coach is known, told reporters in a press conference.

"Specifically to Makhubela I know he was playing against his (parent) team and wanted to do well and he started very scrappy, so I allowed him to do that.

"I don't have a problem with players who want to do whatever they want to do but I'm only interested when we lose the ball, what was the reaction," he said.

Vilakazi insisted that he would give Makhubela the benefit of the doubt, as he needed the confidence the most after a long time not playing regularly.

"And I don't expect them to lose the ball after doing that. I know he was not the culprit but he passed someone and we lost the ball after that," he went on.

"But specifically to Makhubela I was okay with him, I felt that would boost his confidence going forward," he added.
