The story

Siyabonga Ngezana is in a good place in his career at the moment, with the 27-year-old playing an important role with FCSB in Romania's top flight and putting in some strong performances for Bafana Bafana.

The ex-Glamour Boys centre-back endured a long and hard road to where he is at the moment, having experienced a tough last season with the Soweto giants under the tutelage of Arthur Zwane.

His inconsistent showings in the heart of Chiefs' defence at the time saw him become a target of abuse from the Khosi Nation during matches and online. In hindsight, his move to Europe came at the perfect time for the Sebokeng-born baller.

In his chat with SoccerBeat’s Peter du Toit and former Chiefs teammate Tsepo Masilela, Ngezana spoke openly about how he got along with "10111".

When asked by Masilela if he had a love/hate relationship with Mangethe during his time at Chiefs, referencing a game Chiefs had drawn to Chippa United in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

"Sesa" answered, "No, actually, the relationship was more like a father and a son because we knew each other, he has known me since I was young," shared Ngezana, admitting that Zwane wanted more from him.

Over the last month, a video of Zwane having a go at Ngezana on the bench went viral again, a clip that signified his difficult final season at the club.

"He was the one who was putting so much work on us as young players, so it's more like he wanted more from me. I remember that game we played. I think we drew that game, because I scored with the head, then after I went out with an injury, I was like, no, I'm not feeling okay, then he was not disappointed with that," he elaborated.

"He was more disappointed because he knows that I'm a strong player, I'll die, I'll do everything on the pitch just to finish the game. He was so disappointed, and immediately after I went out, they scored, and the opposition scored immediately.

"He was so frustrated because to him, he thinks like, if I could have stayed until the 90 minutes, maybe we could have won the game.  The cameraman caught the action, and then he was yelling at me and stuff, yeah, but yeah, that was the story," said Ngezana.

In his second season at FCSB, Ngezana has followed up his debut campaign with more consistent performances for the Romanian giants.

He's made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Bucharest-based side, including 11 appearances in the UEFA Europa League and a commendable showing against Manchester United in the league phase.

Ngezana spoke to SoccerBeat about the FCSB head coach who helped him feel more comfortable in his new environment.

Ngezana stated that he quickly formed a close relationship with coach Elias Charalambous, who has South African roots through his father, was born in the Eastern Cape and can speak isiXhosa.
