Pitso Mosimane's academic honour

Pitso Mosimane is set to receive an honorary doctorate to recognise his success as both football player and coach.

The former Sundowns and Bafana Bafana head coach will be conferred with honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) at their autumn and winter graduation series.

Pitso will be honoured alongside authors, a distinguished scholar and scientist, as well as a trailblazer in the financial industry.

"Mr. Mosimane has been vocal about the potential and quality of African football and has consistently advocated for African players to receive equal opportunities and recognition in global football. His outspokenness has helped shed light on the talent pool in Africa and the need for increased investment and development in the continent's football infrastructure.

"He continues to excel in this avenue with the development of the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools. Mosimane's success has broken barriers and shattered stereotypes, demonstrating that African coaches and players can excel at the highest levels of the game," wrote UJ on their website after announcing Mosimane's honorary doctorate on social media.

As a player, Pitso plied his trade for Jomo Cosmos, Pirates and Sundowns before going overseas to represent Ionikos Nikeas in Greece, FC Rita Berlaar in Belgium and Al-Sadd FC in Qatar.

He started his coaching career in the 90's and has managed SuperSport United, Bafana Bafana, Sundowns, Al Ahly, Ah-Ahli SC (Saudi Arabia), Al-Wahda (UAE) and now finds himself at Abha Club in the Saudi Pro League.

His coaching career has seen him win five DStv Premiership titles and three CAF Champions League crowns with Downs and twice with the Red Devils.
