The story
Former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns star, Percy Tau, is back on South African shores after a short stint in Qatar and is on a radio interview tour in Johannesburg.
The three-time CAF Champions League winner sat down with YFM's "Home Run" show to chat about football and his upbringing in a mining town in Mpumalanga.
When asked by the show's host what inspired him to ignore the mining path and opt for football, Tau answered: "In Witbank, there’s a lot of football. We've produced a lot of footballers in the past.
"So, there's always been this thing in the townships, where it's either you go into mining or play football. I've seen a lot of those good players around me and I wanted to learn and play the game," added Tau.
Tau also spoke about his experiences of playing football in Europe with English Premiership side Brighton & Hove Albion, Union Saint-Gilloise, Club Brugge, and Anderlecht.
