From Swallows To Arrows: Here's Some Of The Best Concept Kits

A well-known UK football graphic designer revealed his own iteration of a Moroka Swallows jersey, taking to TikTok to showcase the vintage-inspired finished product.

What's the story?

A British designer known as Zayn, put together a vintage-inspired beauty in making a concept kit for Moroka Swallows.

The designer shared the work on his heavily-followed TikTok page, Zayn's Jersey Co. where he's built a solid South African football following and posted designs of other big clubs from Mzansi.

Swallows concept kit

A good chunk of concept kit designers opt for a more modern aesthetic when putting together their own version of a team's jersey. 

Zayn's Swallows concept design sees him take some inspiration from football kits of the past, creating an 1980's-style strip for Maswaiswai.

Quite similar to this season's home and away Swallows kits from Drip Sportif and their 2020/21 strips from Umbro, Zayn used outline illustrations of the Swallows bird to emboss the Burgundy base jersey.

The 80's retro element comes with the pinstripes, the white V-neck finishing and white taping on the sleeves. It's design that could easily outdo the Dube Birds' current home jersey.

Zayn has shown love to many South African clubs in his concept designs, making his own versions of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates' kits. 

His DStv Premiership portfolio also includes Cape Town Spurs, Golden Arrows, Chippa United, Polokwane City, AmaZulu, Royal AM, SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Cape Town City and the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic.
