The story

After a stellar 2024/25 season in all competitions with Mamelodi Sundowns, Lucas Ribeiro Costa earned three nominations for the upcoming PSL Awards.

Ribeiro has become a key figure in Miguel Cardoso's setup, and last season, the Brazilian contributed 20 goals, 16 of which came from the Betway Premiership.

Out of the 16 he scored in the league, his incredible solo effort in Sundowns' 4-1 win over Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld earned him a Goal of the Season nod, alongside Kaizer Chiefs' Glody Lilepo and Stellenbosch's Fawaaz Basadien.

His goals in Sundowns' wins over Magesi and Amakhosi could have also made the Goal of the Season shortlist.

Ribeiro also managed incredible finishes in Masandawana's run to the CAF Champions League final and made a mark in the recent FIFA Club World Cup campaign, scoring an impressive solo goal against Borussia Dortmund in their 4-3 loss to the German giants.

Costa's goal against Dortmund is nominated for the CWC's Goal of the Tournament, with the 26-year-old's goal making it onto the 10-goal shortlist published by FIFA, with fans asked to vote for their favourite.

Ribeiro is up against some tough competition in pursuit of the prize, competing with the likes of Lionel Messi, Jamal Musiala, Joao Pedro and Jhon Arias.
