Radebe's Winning Streak Continues

The story

Lucas Radebe received one of the four 'special' accolades at the annual Sport Industry Awards at Vodaworld in Midrand, Johannesburg on Monday.

"Rhoo" was honoured alongside Springbok rugby star, Retshegofaditswe "Ox" Nché, Cricket South Africa CEO, Pholetsi Moseki and philanthropist, Rachel Kolisi.

The South African football icon got a rousing reception as he was presented with the 'Sport Lifetime Achievement Award' by his former teammate and close friend, Mark Fish.

A press release shared by Sport Industry regarding the awards explained the motivation behind Rhoo's accolade, describing him as someone who has made extraordinary contributions to the sport and as a name synonymous with football in this country.

"Known for his leadership, versatility, and passion on the field, he enjoyed a distinguished career as a player, whilst off it, he has continued to be an ambassador for South African football, inspiring future generations," added the Sport Industry Group SA's article.

The annual Sport Industry Awards celebrate the passion and creativity driving some of Mzansi's most memorable sporting events, campaigns, and sponsorships, honoring the behind-the-scenes achievements within the sports industry.

While Rhoo ticks all the boxes for being a positive contributor in the local football industry, his Lifetime Achievement Award wasn't his only major acknowledgement of late.

The former Kaizer Chiefs captain was also inducted into the South African two weeks ago alongside Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis, former Bafana Bafana coaches Shakes Mashaba and Jomo Sono, 1996 AFCON winning captain Neil Tovey as well as former Kaizer Chiefs greats Teenage Dladla and the late Ace Ntsoelengoe.

Before receiving his Lifetime Achievement honour on Monday, Radebe also became one of the first few graduates of the new   Multichoice School of Leadership, a unique short course completed through The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
