The Brazilian playmaker, who enjoyed a stellar campaign last season and dazzled at the FIFA Club World Cup, has been heavily linked with a move abroad.
Soccer Laduma recently reported that Ribeiro has received offers from multiple clubs across Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, and even North Africa. Among the suitors is Percy Tau’s former club, Qatar SC, while a top-tier team in Brazil has also expressed serious interest.
While the 26-year-old has reported back to Chloorkop for pre-season, sources indicate that he is edging closer to the exit door. Sundowns, who reportedly do not want to sell to a CAF Champions League rival, are believed to be preparing for life without the influential attacker.
His heroics in the USA, particularly his Goal of the Tournament against Borussia Dortmund, have elevated his stock on the global stage.
Yet, despite all the noise, Ribeiro shared a composed message via Sundowns Magazine:
“My mind and focus are fully with Mamelodi Sundowns. This upcoming season, I want to continue delivering high levels of performance and help the team achieve more success. The expectations are always high, and we embrace that.”
“Personally, I am looking to contribute even more, whether it is through goals, assists, or leadership on the pitch. It is going to be another exciting chapter.”
While Ribeiro appears committed in word, the club is seemingly bracing for his departure, viewing it as an opportunity for the player to elevate his career further. As it stands, his next destination remains unconfirmed, but indications are that he may soon leave South African shores.
Ribeiro is also among the favourites to walk away with the PSL Footballer of the Season award at Tuesday night’s ceremony, another feather in the cap of a player whose journey with Sundowns may soon reach its final chapter.
