The story
Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, Cassius Mailula, sadly lost his mother on Sunday after scoring for Wydad in their 2-0 league win over RCA Zemamra.
His latest goal brought his season total to four goals and seven assists, showcasing an impressive run for the Toronto FC loanee in the Botola Pro League.
Unfortunately, the joy of his performance was overshadowed by personal tragedy, as Mailula received the news after the match that his mother had passed away. Wydad has since granted him compassionate leave so he can return home to be with his family.
"I'm so proud to call you my Mother. You have always been a supportive mother and amazing human being. Today, I smile because I know I have made you proud and that I gave you the best send off by scoring for you in your last days with us on earth," wrote the heartbroken Mailula on Instagram.
"Thank you for all the sacrifices you made for our family and for everything that you've done for me. Rest in Peace, my Queen. I love you now and forever," added Mailula, who received messages of support from Amapiano and house music hitmakers, Kelvin Momo and Oscar Mbo.
The likes of Thembinkosi Lorch, Lebogang Manyama, Sipho Chaine, Thapelo Maseko and Bradley Surprise Ralani also sent their condolences to the 23-year-old.
