Shrek’s Lord Farquaad Chooses Foster Over Ronaldo & Messi

Burnley FC's new striker, Lyle Foster.

Burnley's ever-so creative social media team used a Shrek antagonist to creatively announce the transfer of Orlando Pirates academy graduate, Lyle Foster.

Check it out!

What's the story?

Lyle Foster has finally completed his move to English Championship leaders, Burnley.

Like the Clarets have done for all their new signings under Vincent Kompany, they welcomed Lyle Foster using a Lord Farquaad scene from Shrek!

Let's see how the revised Shrek scene played out...

Burnley use Shrek for Foster announcement

In the animated film franchise Shrek, fans of the iconic film series will remember the scene where Lord Farquaad is presented with three princesses to choose from by the Magic Mirror.

Burnley's media team tweaked that scene and made it about Lord Farquaad choosing Burnley's next January signing.

"Mirror mirror on the wall, don't Burnley have the most perfect team of them all?" asked Shrek antagonist, Lord Farquaad, to his trusted Magic Mirror, which quickly claps back by saying:

"Well, you haven't scored 100 goals so far this season, have you?" and Magic Mirror adds that Lord Farquaad's Burnley could improve on the 62 goals they've scored this season by presenting him with a list of forwards to chose from.

The mirror starts off by presenting two greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as options for the fictional lord to choose from and the third option, is none other than Lyle Foster.

"And last but not least, a super South African from the Belgium Pro League, and at only 22 years old, he has already represented and scored for his national side at both youth and senior levels," says the Magic Mirror.

After choosing Foster over Messi and Ronaldo, the scene ends with Farquaad saying: "He's perfect!"

The video has been hyped on social media as Burnley's finest transfer-announcement effort so far, and the club teased the Foster announced by posting a GIF of a Springbok:

Burnley's media team have a brilliant knack of using cultural-references of well known films to announce their signings.

From reimagining classic WWE moments to reinventing film scenes, Burnley's transfer announcement videos are simply unmatched at the moment... much like their imperial form in the Championship.
