Messi made his way into the social media history books by officially having the most liked Instagram post of all time!
Messi's first post after winning the World Cup with Argentina earned him over 50 million, surpassing the infamous egg photo and his internet-breaking Louis Vuitton campaign with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi receives highest IG likes
Following his World Cup triumph with Argentina after one of the most dramatic World Cup finals against 2018 winners, France, Messi has officially won every major trophy he's contested.
After "completing" football, the PSG megastar has gone on to do the same on Instagram. The post of him lifting the World Cup trophy garnered over 57.9 million likes, and counting.
Messi posted 10 pictures of his World Cup celebrations, once again showing Instagram that the power of a still image is unmatched and could still outdo a reel or a TikTok re-shared on the platform.
With over 400 million followers on IG, the 35-year-old has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's baby announcement picture, Ariana Grande's wedding snap and late rapper XXXTentacion's last ever post.
Although Messi officially has the most liked Instagram pic, Ronaldo is still the most followed on the platform with 520 million followers.

Messi and Ronaldo are the only athletes in the top 10 most followed accounts on IG, the rest of the list is made of up actors, musicians and other celebs such as Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Khloe Kardashian and Justin Bieber.
