The story

When watching Patrick Maswanganyi expressing himself on the pitch for the Sea Robbers, one can't help but think day legend that captivated the Happy People in a similar manner.

It came as no surprise when the Orlando Pirates playmaker named Bafana Bafana and PSL legend, Teko Modise as his idol.

Since joining Pirates from SuperSport United last season, Maswanganyi has become a vital part of the squad and a fan favourite for his creativity on the pitch and showboating antics.

In a dream breakthrough season for 'Tito', he earned the PSL Players' Player of the Season award, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists in 40 matches in all competitions.

Following the Buccaneers' 3-0 victory over Polokwane City, Maswanganyi expressed his admiration for the former SuperSport United, Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Cape Town City midfield general:

"For me, it has to be Teko Modise. I grew up watching him, and his style of play and fashion have been significant influences on my career. I always wanted to emulate him," Maswanganyi said told SuperSport TV's Thomas Mlambo.

"I tried to mimic him, but I know we are different individuals, and I need to be myself. Nonetheless, he has played a huge role in my life, inspiring me to adjust my game and strive to be like him," added the mercurial attacking midfielder.

When looking at some of Tito's performances from last season and his flashy moments on the pitch so far this season, it's not to see the Teko Modise inspiration.

Like Modise did in the 2008/09 campaign against Kaizer Chiefs in Durban, Maswanganyi produced an inspired display in last season's Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium.

His second half showing helped spur Pirates to an enthralling 3-2 win over their bitter rivals and saw Maswanganyi certify himself as the crowd favourite at Orlando Pirates.
