Cape Town City 2-3 Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns overcame Cape Town City to reach the final of the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired with a 3-2 win in the semi-finals at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday morning.
A penalty on 12 minutes by Taahir Goedeman put the Citizens ahead, but Sundowns levelled from a strike by Siyanda Nyanga and took the lead into halftime through Musawenkosi Mdhluli.
The Brazilians wasted little time in the second half to extend their advantage courtesy of Simnikiwe Mbonde before a lifeline from City followed through Goedeman.
However, it was the Tshwane giants who held on to advance to the final despite the Citizens going all out near the end in pursuit of a turnaround.
Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 AmaZulu (AmaZulu won 3-4 on penalties)
Kaizer Chiefs missed out on the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired final following a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat against AmaZulu after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time on Saturday.
Chiefs should've punished the KwaZulu-Natal outfit in the opening seconds following a ball into the area, but Kamohelo Hoala left their counterparts off the hook.
The Amakhosi would go on to find the breakthrough midway following the first half courtesy of Tshepo Mohlala, but Lindokuhle Zungu made matters shortly before the break.
With the two sides not separated in regulation, penalties followed and Usuthu emerged victors with Zungu netting the decisive kick in the shoot-out after the Amakhosi missed two of their kicks.
