Diski Challenge Wrap -12-13 February 2022

Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways after edging AmaZulu in a five-goal thriller courtesy of a brace by Puso Dithejane on Saturday afternoon at Bidvest Wits Stadium.

Dithejene gave Amakhosi a head start with the opener in the ninth minute and quickly doubled their lead three minutes later.

Mduduzi Shabalala gave Vela Khumalo's charges a 3-0 lead early in the second stanza but Chiefs had a scare in the latter stages, as Tebogo Masuku pulled a goal back for Usuthu 15 minutes before time and Lankie Khoza got the second goal back but it was too little too late.

Mamelodi Sundowns went up to third on the standings after beating Marumo Gallants 2-1 on Sunday morning at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Brazilians extended their unbeaten run to five matches while bottom side Gallants lost their eighth game in nine outings.

Log-leaders Orlando Pirates' two-game winning run came to an end after they were held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City on Sunday afternoon Bidvest Wits Stadium.

Boitumelo Radiopane had a chance to break the deadlock for Pirates ten minutes before the half-time break after going one-on-one with goalkeeper Luca Diana-Oliaro but his lob sailed over the bar.

Radiopane came close to snatching the winner for the Buccaneers two minutes before time but had a shot cleared off the line by a City defender.

SuperSport United's three-game unbeaten run came to an end after they were thrashed 3-0 by Golden Arrows on Sunday morning at Bidvest Wits Stadium.

Samkelo Mzolo gave Arrows a perfect start with the opener in the 13th minute, scoring from a rebound after goalkeeper Putco Khoza could not handle a cross and made it 2-0 five minutes before the half-time after beating Khoza in a one-on-one.

Mzolo made it 3-0 for Abafana Bes'thende and completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.

Stellenbosch reduced the gap behind leaders Orlando Pirates in second place to just four points after hammering Swallows 4-2 on Saturday morning at Bidvest Wits Stadium.

Stellies raced to a 4-0 lead, as Mervin Boji scored the only goal of the first stanza, Liam De Lock doubled their lead just before the hour-mark, Tshepo Myeni made it 3-0 two minutes later and Devin Titus got the fourth goal 11 minutes before time.

Ian Makaringe pulled a goal back for the Birds eight minutes before time and Tiniko Sithole made the scoreline respectable with the second consolation goal in the last minute.
