AmaZulu Diski Challenge Coach Opens Up On Win Against Mamelodi Sundowns

AmaZulu v Mamelodi Sundowns

AmaZulu's DStv Diski Challenge coach Sboniso Vilakazi has opened up about the Durban-based team's win against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Usuthu were crowned the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired champions after their 2-0 win over Sundowns on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of goals from Lindani Shange and Sandile Khumalo.

"We are very excited, we are happy, but credit must go to the players and glory to the almighty God who gave us strength that we went up to so far. We have been working very hard like we are saying. I mean, the boys did extremely well, and again they responded very well tactically. You look at the game, especially in the first half, of course we wanted to get one, and then we knew very well that we were having a strategy that going back to the second half we knew that they were going to throw everything. And then the question is, if you are going to the second half, do you still want to play an open game? Then the answer is no," said Vilakazi, speaking through the club's media department.

"They were the ones who were going to chase the game; allow them to have the ball possession, allow them to throw everything but catch them on the counter, and that's why we got that penalty. And when they were having the ball possession, they were very slow when circulating the ball, so when we were defending, we needed to make sure that we recovered as soon as we could so that they could play in front of us because they were not dangerous," the coach added.

The coach thanked AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu and first team coach Benni McCarthy and his technical team for the support on their way to triumph.
