Tinkler: Chiefs Didn't Hurt Us

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler claims Kaizer Chiefs did not hurt them during their goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens remain without a win in 2024 after collecting a point against the Soweto giants at Athlone Stadium.

Tinkler felt like he got a reaction from his players in the first half and feels like they handled Chiefs in all departments.

"I wanted a better reaction from the team like I said to you before, I wanted better energy, desire, passion, and I think first half I saw that. You know, the mind shifts it was extremely important especially after the games we played where we didn't get the desired results," Tinkler told SuperSport TV.

"So, I thought our first half performance was really, really good you know. I thought we put them on the back-foot. We had the better chances in that first half, only time they really looked to hurt us was on the counter-attack whenever we gave the ball poorly.

"Other than that, we dealt with them in the build-up, we dealt with them in open-play. So, they didn't hurt us, it's just in the final third. We didn't punish them when we had the opportunities to do that.

"So, we spoke about that at halftime about fixing those areas, first 15 minutes in the second half we were in there. I think as the game progressed, we started to tire.

"They started to come into the game a lot more, again like I said counter-attack opportunities, balls in-behind and second half performance especially last 20 minutes, we needed to control the game better than we did and we didn't.

"We gave the ball away too quickly, too early, too cheaply and then we got caught on the counter, that was always going to be the threat," he added.
