On Sunday evening, the Egyptian giants became African champions for the first time in their history when they defeated Masandawana at the June 30 Stadium.
Earlier in the week, the Cairo-based club only managed to finish in second place on the final day of the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League campaign behind Al Ahly. However, they redeemed themselves with an even bigger prize, as a 2-1 victory over Ka Bo Yellow in the second leg of the continental grand finale earned them glory in the biggest match in African club football.
Goals from Fiston Mayele and Ahmed Samy either side of half-time were enough to see Pyramids become only the fourth side from Egypt to claim the title. They consequently booked their place not only in next season’s CAF Super Cup, where they will face CAF Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane, but also in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
After the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Tshwane, Pyramids FC head coach Krunoslav Jurcic claimed that the second leg would be played in front of an empty stadium due to the club’s lack of supporters. However, after their latest triumph, the Croat credited their historic win to the fans who came out to support the club, saying it was this backing that spurred them on to victory.
"There were a lot of fans today who rallied behind the team," Jurcic said in an interview after the match, as per Kora Plus.
"I thank them greatly for their encouragement of the team. The fans greatly supported the players during the match and motivated them."

The club was only founded in 2018, and it was only last season — with the Egyptian Cup, that they won their first ever piece of silverware. Now, their second is the Champions League, and on Thursday, against Zamalek, they will aim to retain their Egyptian Cup title.
