Tau came on in the second half grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal, as Sundowns crashed out of the CAF Champions League at the hands of TP Mazemebe.
However, the former Bafana Bafana boss revealed that everyone was surprised with the inclusion of Tau in the 18-man squad.
"It's unbelievable how young Percy came to the team, very late and everybody was surprised why I believed the young Percy should travel but he's been playing very well in the training," he said after the game.
"We played three friendly games and he performed very well in the three games over the FIFA break, he worked hard, he scored goals and there he came in, he scored, he could have scored another, I believe that we could have got one more but we didn't get."
Mosimane added that the atmosphere at the Stade du TP Mazembe might have got to the players in the first half.
"I'm not sure I can't speak for them, if it did, maybe in the first half yes, but once they realised there was nothing here, we started to play in the second half," he added.
"When we went to training sessions, when we arrived and when we got to the stadium, it was the black and white of Mazembe all the way."
