The Democratic Republic of the Congo outfit played against Sundowns in the early stages of the competition, before being crowned champions last weekend.
Although Sundowns is one of the teams they knocked out in the initial stages of the competition, Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron has made a special praise for Pitso Mosimane's side for their performance in their two-legged tie.
"I feel that our path in the Champions League was strewn with pitfalls. Confronting Mamelodi Sundowns was very difficult in only the second round. They are a great team‚ perhaps the best we met in this year's competition.
"Facing Stade Malien was very difficult too. As for our group (Al Hilal‚ Moghreb Tetouan, Smouha)‚ it was of a much higher standard than the other group‚ that of USMA.

"We have been known to be sturdy‚ even in difficult times. I am very glad we make millions of Congolese happy," Carteron has been quoted saying in the media.
