Could Bafana Be Missing A Key Player Next Month?

Could Bafana Be Missing A Key Player Next Month?

Molefi Ntseki

Bafana Bafana head coach, Molefi Ntseki, will be sweating on the fitness of one of his key players ahead of their next games, with injury concerns surrounding a central midfield figure…

Kamohelo Mokotjo, who became a regular for the South African national team under Stuart Baxter, was expected to start for Bafana as they face São Tomé and Príncipe both home and away in their next 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the side looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Sudan last year.

Mokotjo has played 23 times for Brentford in the English Championship so far this season, putting in a good shift over the past few months as they climbed up the table and into the play-off places in an attempt to secure promotion to the English Premier League.

The 23-year-old was handed a blow last month though as he was forced off with a suspected knee injury in their 1-0 defeat against Leicester City in the FA Cup, and he has not featured in either of their last two games.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding the severity of the player's injury, but Ntseki will be hoping that he can get himself back fit and firing in the coming weeks so that he can put himself in contention for the squad in March.

With 31+ games in all of the past five seasons in England and the Netherlands, Mokotjo is not a player accustomed to missing games due to injury, but suggestions are that this one could keep him out for a bit of time.
