Broos On Chiefs Coverage: 'I Am Really Upset!'

Broos On Chiefs Coverage: 'I Am Really Upset!'

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos voiced his displeasure in how words were put in his mouth in reference to Kaizer Chiefs players not being selected for his final squad for the upcoming friendlies against Namibia and DR Congo.

Broos took time to address the media at FNB Stadium on Monday about the issue, making it clear that he would not answer questions going forward if he is misquoted by the media.

"There was a lot of commotion between me and Kaizer Chiefs, especially Mr Ntseki, the coach. I am fully responsible for what I said last Wednesday when I announced the 23 players about the players of Kaizer Chiefs. I said, first, they don't deserve to be in the national team and when I said they don't deserve, I did not mean they don't have the skills, but their performances were not enough to be in Bafana Bafana.

"At that moment, Chiefs had four points out of 12 in the competition (DStv Premiership) and you saw a reaction after the defeat against Galaxy. I don't think I said something wrong.

"Secondly, I am responsible when I said there are many new players (at Chiefs) and it takes some time for everything to be okay, because it's not easy to implement five or six new players into the team. I am responsible also for, as I said, I was not comparing Chiefs to last season. Chiefs struggled last season. The performances were not what we can expect from a team like Chiefs. I am not responsible for things someone amongst you tried to put in my mouth and I did not say. I quote 'Ntseki did not change anything'. I never said that and that is very bad and I am really upset.

"If you want to criticise the coach of a team, do it yourself. Don't use me by letting me say things I did not say. I am really upset. I hope you quote me about things that I say. I do not know who did it, but you can be sure that if I lose confidence and trust in you, my press conferences will be basic in future and I will not answer any more questions from you. This is very bad."
