Bafana Bafana second assistant and U20 head coach, Thabo Senong has gone on record stating that his mobile phone has been hacked, and his number is being used to scam his contacts.
Senong has revealed that one of his two mobile phones, that contains the digits 078, has been hacked and someone has been sending out text messages, pretending to be the U20 head coach.
Some of the messages that have been sent out have asked people for money to 'bribe the law enforcement' because of an alleged speeding fine ticket. The message also claims that the coach is behind bars and in need of financial assistance in order to pay for his bail.
Another message alleges that Senong is running soccer trials in Brits and is asking for donations from some of his contacts.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Senong confirmed that one of his mobile numbers has since been hacked and also issued an official statement regarding the matter.
"I want to go on record to say that my cellphone has been hacked. I want to apologise to all my contacts who have received these messages, please ignore them as they are not from me. I have since blocked the number, however, it is only fair that I warn the public of this matter. I must also set the record straight that I have not been arrested for any speeding fine and that I'm not running any trials in Brits, as I'm at the SAFA house doing my job," said Senong.
This is not the first time that someone in the football fraternity has been a victim to malicious scammers. The Siya crew reported on several similar incidents that took place, the most recent one involved Mamelodi Sundowns' Thabo Nthethe, who received a message from someone pretending to be a local football agent, offering the player a footballing contract at Orlando Pirates.
