The Frenchman, who played for Real Madrid between 2001 and 2006 took on a role as Florentino Perez's presidential advisor when the Spaniard was elected for a second term in 2009. According to Marca, he's had his eye on the role of first team manager ever since he became part of the dressing room when he took on a role linking players to the board while Jose Mourinho was first team coach.
The report adds that his season as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant during 2013/14 helped him gain a better understanding of what would be expected of him and also gave him some valuable experience in the dugout.
The final step in Zidane's "training" process is currently underway as he shows what he's learned in Real Madrid's 'B' team, Castilla, where he is working with the likes of Martin Ødegaard and even his own son, who will hopefully be Real's stars of the future and the third generation of 'galácticos' at the club.
The Marca report concludes by saying that Zidane will have one more season at Castilla before he makes the step up to management exactly ten years after he retired from playing.
