A former Mamelodi Sundowns striker has found a new club two months after parting ways with the Brazilians.
As reported by the Siya crew back in July, Mauricio Affonso was among the first casualties of Sundowns' shopping spree and did not return to Chloorkop at the end of the 2020/21 season, following the club's decision to rope in Pavol Safranko.
Now, the crew has gathered that the lanky forward has resurfaced in his home country of Uruguay where he has penned a deal with topflight outfit, Club Atlético River Plate.
The club confirmed the player's capture on their official social media platforms on Thursday, revealing that the striker has already started training with his new teammates.
Despite arriving to much fanfare when he joined the Brazilians in 2019, Affonso's time at the club was marred by injuries, and failed to live up to his billing at Chloorkop, which saw the forward make 22 appearances in two years at the club.
He scored six goals in total.
River Plate is the striker's seventh club in his nomadic career, having played in Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and Peru where he last featured before joining Sundowns.
