Gareth Bale's €100 million move from Tottenham Hotspur to Madrid was the latest of five transfer world records broken by the Spanish giants since 2000, in their attempt build the famous 'Galacticos'.
Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane came during the first wave of 'Galacticos', while Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale and James Rodriguez are the latest expensive signings.
The craziness came to a climax in 2009, when first Kaka signed for a new world record fee of €65 million and later Ronaldo's €94 million deal broke that record during the same window.
