Euro 2016 - Quarterfinal
Teams: France 5-2 Iceland
Date: 03 July 2016
Venue: Stade de France
France booked their spot in the semi-finals of the European Championship with a 5-2 win over Iceland at the Stade de France.
After a slow start, France broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, as Olivier Giroud latched onto a pass from Blaise Matuidi, before volleying home from a tight angle.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 20th minute. Paul Pogba rose above his marker to head home Antoine Griezmann's corner for his first of the tournament.
Iceland carved out their first opening in the 25th minute when Aron Gunnarsson's long throw found Jon Bodvarsson, who volleyed over the crossbar from six-yards out.
France grabbed their third goal in the 43rd minute, as Griezmann teed up Dimitri Payet, who fired home a low effort from the edge of the area.
There was enough time add a fourth goal before the break, with Griezmann registering his name on the score-sheet with a fine lob over Halldorsson for his fourth goal of the tournament.
Iceland managed to reduce the deficit 10 minutes into the second half, as Gylfi Sigurdsson picked out Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, who poked home at the near post.
However, France restored their four-goal advantage two minutes later as Giroud towered home a header to clinch his second of the game.
Iceland pulled another goal back in the 82nd minute when an un-marked Birkir Bjarnason headed past Hugo Lloris at the far post for his second goal of the tournament.
Nonetheless, the score remained 5-2 in favour of the hosts at the full-time whistle, and Didier Deschamps' charges will now face Germany in the semi-finals.
