FIFA will not be taking action against Arjen Robben after he admitted diving during the Round of 16 clash with Mexico.
Robben has apologized for diving during the Netherlands' 2-1 victory, but insisted he didn't dive for the decisive penalty in stoppage time.
FIFA head of media, Delia Fischer, confirmed the disciplinary committee would not take any action against Robben and would only look retrospectively at 'serious infringements' of its fair play rules, while diving only carries a yellow card sanction.
"Simulation is not something we want to see on the field of play but the referees are trained to identify these simulations and punish them by showing yellow cards," Fischer said.
"The disciplinary committee will look into serious infringements. We appeal to the spirit of fair play which is the over-arching message we have."
The Dutch FA (KNVB) also published an official statement on their website and stated Robben's comments had been misinterpreted, stressing the player had said the late penalty was 'perfectly correct'.
