UEFA Nations League
Result: Germany 2-2 Netherlands
Date: 19 November 2018
Venue: VELTINS-Arena
Netherlands secured their spot in the UEFA Nations League finals after rallying back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Germany on Monday night.
The Dutch needed at least a point after they defeated France 2-1 on Friday, while Germany were only playing for pride.
Despite Germany's struggles, they broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion as Timo Werner sent a powerful volley past Jasper Cillessen after just nine minutes.
It got better for the home side ten minutes later when Leroy Sane latched on to Toni Kroos' long ball before firing home with a deflected effort.
The visitors, meanwhile, were struggling to mount any openings going forward as talisman Memphis Depay was kept quiet throughout the half. As a result, Germany went into the break leading by two goals. With the Dutch desperate for a result, Ronald Koeman threw on the likes of Javairô Dilrosun, Tonny Vilhena and Luuk de Jong in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Joachim Low responded by introducing Thomas Muller and Marco Reus after the hour, with the former making his 100th appearance for the side.League B
