England and Germany played to an entertaining 3-3 draw in their final UEFA Nations League encounter at Wembley Stadium on Monday night.

Result: England 3-3 Germany

Date: 26 September 2022

Venue: Wembley Stadium

Gareth Southgate made just two changes from the defeat to Italy, with Luke Shaw and Eric Dier replacing Bukayo Saka and Kyle Walker.

The Germans were nearly gifted the opener after Nick Pope's poor clearance fell to Ilkay Gundogan, who took one touch before firing over the crossbar from the edge of the box.

England managed to carve out their first chance in the 24th minute when Luke Shaw's superb pass played in Raheem Sterling, who skipped past one challenge but was denied by fine save by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Southgate was forced to make a change with 10 minutes left of the first half, as John Stones was replaced by his club mate Walker after picking up an injury.

England certainly finished the half the stronger of the two sides and could have had the opener just before the break when Sterling was denied by Ter Stegen once again.

Germany were given a lifeline on 50 minutes after being awarded a penalty for Harry Maguire's foul on Jamal Musiala following a VAR review, which allowed Gundogan to slot into the far corner.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 67th minute as a swift counter-attack ended with Kai Havertz finding the top corner with a superb finish from just outside the box.

Shaw pulled one back for the home side four minutes later after getting on the end of Reece James' cross before firing past Ter Stegen at the far post.

The comeback was complete a couple minutes later when substitute Bukayo Saka teed up Mason Mount, who sent fine first-time strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

VAR then went in England's favour with eight minutes to go after being awarded a penalty for Nico Schlotterbeck's late challenge on Bellingham. Kane stepped up and blasted into the top corner.

The lead did not last long though as Pope's failure to hold on to a routine shot allowed Havertz to poke home for his second goal on the night, as the encounter ended 3-3 at Wembley Stadium.
