Despite Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals and captaining his country to the title, the 34-year-old was beaten to the Player of the Tournament award by one of his teammates.

Ronaldo scored all three goals in Portugal's 3-1 semi-final win over Switzerland, but was not able to add another in the final, with his teammate Goncalo Guedes netting Portugal's 1-0 winner.
However, it was Bernardo Silva who won the tournament's Golden Ball. The Manchester City winger provided the assist for the winner in the final, and one of Ronaldo's goals in the semi-final too.
"He showed his level of quality in creating goals, his overall performance on the two games was outstanding. Had a positive influence on the team both in and out of possession," UEFA Technical Observer Packie Bonner told UEFA's official website.

Meanwhile, Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has already completed a transfer to FC Barcelona, was named Young Player of the Tournament, with only players born after 1 January 1996 being eligible for this award.
"He continues to show improvement as a young player and his development in this tournament will help him to mature again. Had a good tournament for a young player," UEFA Technical Observer David Moyes said.

Portugal went unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning two matches and drawing two of their four group-stage games, before adding another two victories at the UEFA Nations League finals on home soil.
