UEFA Champions League's 10 All-Time Top Goalscorers

UEFA Champions League's 10 All-Time Top Goalscorers

In the UEFA Champions League final this weekend, Karim Benzema will have the opportunity to claim third position on the competition's all-time top goalscorers list should he find the back of the net against Liverpool.

Benzema has enjoyed an historic Champions League campaign this season. This has been the most prolific the 34-year-old has ever been in his illustrious career, and it is in Europe's premier club competition where he has showcased that best.

The France international has scored 15 goals in the Champions League so far this season, 10 of which have come during the competition's knockout phase. These goals have him tied with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski on 86 tournament strikes.

Benzema's 10 knockout-stage goals are also a competition record, level with his former Los Blancos teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who also scored 10 knockout stage goals during the 2017/18 season, the last time Real won the Champions League.

No man has scored more goals in the history of the UCL than the Portuguese forward, who has found the back of net 140 times in 183 competition appearances. Ronaldo has won the trophy five times as well, first lifting it during the 2007/08 campaign with Manchester United, before winning it on four more occasions with Real.

His five Champions League victories are equal to the number Barcelona have won in their entire existence. Arguably their greatest ever player though, Lionel Messi, is among the 10 most prolific scorers in the history of the competition.

10 Players In The Running For 2022 Ballon d'Or

The diminutive Argentine has scored a total of 125 UCL goals during his time at the Camp Nou and now the Parc des Prince with Paris Saint-Germain.

Six of the players in the top 10 are still active, with four of them making up the top five. The highest-scoring non-active player is former Los Blancos captain Raul, who enjoyed a goal-littered career in Spain and Germany while playing in the UCL.

The three-time competition winner was able score a goal every other game in the tournament, finding the back of the net 71 times in 142 appearances on Europe's biggest stage.
