UEFA Champions League semi-final

Teams: Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

Date: 25 April 2018

Venue: Allianz Arena

Time: 8.45pm

The clash between the two continental giants is the most common fixture in Europe's history as both sides get ready to take each other on for the 25th time – and the seventh time in a European semi-final.

Overall, the two sides have met each other in 11 previous knockout contests – all in the European Cup/Champions League. Real have advanced six times and Bayern five.

They also met in last year's quarter-finals, when Madrid advanced 6-3 on aggregate, but had to go to extra-time in the second leg. With Ronaldo having scored five goals in that tie alone, it won't surprise anyone that Bayern are among his favourite victims, with the Portuguese having scored nine times overall against the German side.

Los Blancos have won their past five matches against Bayern, scoring 13 goals and conceding only four times.

Real have reached the semi-final stage for a record-breaking eighth successive season, and advanced to the final thrice, winning the competition on all three occasions.

Bayern, meanwhile, have reached this stage for a sixth successive year, but lost their last three semi-final clashes.

Ronaldo has scored in his past 12 games across all competitions – a run that has seen him bag 22 goals – and if he scores tonight, it would be his longest-ever scoring streak. The Portuguese has also scored in every single Champions League game he has featured in this season, netting 15 strikes overall, which is just two short of his best-ever UCL campaign.
