Result: Bayern Munich 1-1 Manchester City (1-4 aggregate)

Date: 19 April 2023

Venue: Allianz Arena

Pep Guardiola went with the same City side that started the first-leg win, while Bavarians coach Thomas Tuchel recalled Eric Chouo-Moting and Joao Cancelo against his parent club.

Bayern had the first real chance on 17 minutes when former City winger Leroy Sane was slipped through on goal, but the winger dragged his effort wide of the mark with only Ederson to beat.

The hosts thought they were reduced to ten men two minutes later when Dayot Upamecano was shown a straight for bringing down Erling Haaland, but the Bayern defender was relieved to find out the City striker was deemed offside.

City were quite content to sit back but the game was seemingly taken away from Bayern when City were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes for Upamecano's handball. Haaland stepped up but blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Bayern had a couple more sights at goal in the latter stages of the first half, with Kinglsey Coman going closest with a stinging effort that was palmed away by Ederson.

The visitors managed to carve out a big chance on the break ten minutes into the second half when a swift counter attack ended with Jack Grealish playing in Haaland, who sent his first time strike straight at Yann Sommer.

Two minutes later, Haaland got his goal after capitalizing on a slip from Upamecano in the box before firing past Yann Sommer for his 48th goal of the campaign.

Thomas Tuchel responded with a change for the final 25 minutes as Sadio Mane replaced Sane in the attack, with the Senegalese featuring for the first time since his alleged punch.

With ten minutes to go, Bayern were awarded a penalty of their own after a handball from Manuel Akanji following a Video Assistant Review (VAR). Joshua Kimmich stepped and made no mistake from to pull one goal back for his side.

That goal was nothing more than a consolation as Man City were already home and dry, as they will come up against defending champions Real Madrid in the last four.
