UEFA Champions League Report: Ajax Amsterdam 0-2 FC Barcelona 05 November 2014

A brace from Lionel Messi handed Barcelona a 2-0 win over Ajax Amsterdam in their UEFA Champions League Group F clash at the Amsterdam Arena.

It was Ajax who got off to the better start, as they saw a lot of the ball in the early stages and came close to going ahead, as Lucas Andersen fired a long range effort just wide of the upright.

Ajax went even closer in the 27th minute, as some good build up play teed up Davy Klaassen, who's volley was well saved by Ter Stegen.

Barcelona eventually took the lead in the 36th minute, Marc Batra pounced on a goalkeeping error from Jasper Cillessen to pick out Messi, who headed into an empty net.

Luis Suarez should have doubled the lead in the 59th minute, the Uruguayan was left one-on-one with Cillessen but had his effort saved by the Ajax number one.

The Dutch side nearly leveled matters in the 68th minute, Thulani Serero picked out Arkadiusz Milik, who's header shaved the outside of the post.

Ajax's task was made even tougher in the 70th minute, as Joel Veltman was shown his second yellow card of the game for a foul on Messi.

Barcelona sealed the win in the 76th minute, as Pedro Rodriguez picked out Messi, who slotted home from close range to equal Raul's Champions League record of 71 goals.
