UEFA Champions League
Quarterfinal, First Leg
Full Time: FC Porto 3-1 Bayern Munich
Date: 15 April 2015
Venue: Estadio Do Dragao
A brace from Ricardo Quaresma helped FC Porto beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, first leg match at the Estadio Do Dragao on Wednesday night.
It was the perfect start to the game for the home side who were awarded a penalty in the third minute after Jackson Martinez broke through on goal and was pulled down by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Neuer was lucky not to be sent from the field and only received a yellow card for his foul where he could easily have been deemed the last man.
Quaresma stepped up for Porto and made no mistake from the spot, 1-0.
The Portuguese side doubled their lead six minutes later when a mistake by Dante allows Quaresma to steal the ball, drive towards goal and finish with aplomb, 2-0.
Bayern struggled for rhythm early on, but finally they found their way and began dictating the flow of the game.
The German side made their pressure tell on the half hour mark when Thiago Alcântara pulled a goal back after turning home a Jerome Boateng cross, 2-1.
Porto nearly found their third goal in bizarre fashion when a cross/cum shot from Alex Sandro was tipped onto the crossbar by Neuer.
The half ended with Bayern trailing by a goal away from home.
The start of the second half saw Porto playing more positive football and they nearly scored in the 57th minute Hector Herrera met a cross from Quaresma, but saw his effort superbly saved by Neuer.
Porto persisted with their pressure and found their third goal eight minutes later when Martinez pounced on another defensive mistake from Bayern and duly fired the ball home from 20-yards out, 3-1.
Bayern tried to find their way back into the game, but failed to do so as Porto take a 3-1 lead into the second leg in Germany next week Tuesday, April 21.
