Sadio Mane Vows To 'Beat Liverpool' In UEFA Champions League

Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane says he is ready to defeat his former side Liverpool should the teams collide in this season's UEFA Champions League.

The Senegalese is already a UCL winner, having won European football's most illustrious club competition in the 2018/19 campaign with Liverpool.

The Reds beat fellow English rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the final 2-0 on that occasion, but on their way to that decider, the Merseyside club met the Bavarian giants in the round of 16.

After a 0-0 draw at Anfield, Mane was the star of the second leg as he found the back of the net twice at the Allianz Arena to secure Liverpool's passage to the last eight.

The 2022 CAF Men's African Player of the Year has previously said that his first goal that night was his favourite, but now that he is teammates with the man he scored against, he has back-tracked on that statement.

"I said maybe [that goal was] my favourite, but now I would say second favourite goal, not my first, because he [Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer] is my teammate," the 30-year-old told the Bundesliga's official newsletter.

"No, I'm joking… Of course, I think it was a good goal, kind of a good goal."

The Senegal international is, however, putting all of that behind him, insisting that should the same match-up occur in this season's edition of the Champions League, Bayern will emerge as victors.

"We had a good game. This is behind us. If we're going to meet again, of course as Bayern Munich we'd beat Liverpool," Mane added.

With Robert Lewandowski leaving Die Roten for the Blaugrana recently, the onus will largely be on Mane to find the back of the net on a regular basis for the Bundesliga giants.

Life as Bayern player has already started well for the former Red Bull Salzburg man, who has already captured the German Super Cup with his new team.
