Pep Guardiola Reacts To Dramatic UEFA Champions League Defeat

Pep Guardiola Reacts To Dramatic UEFA Champions League Defeat

Pep Guardiola has reacted to Manchester City's epic UEFA Champions League defeat at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Kroos Reveals EPL Side He Almost Joined

Last season's losing finalists looked certain for another shot at the trophy when Riyad Mahrez scored in the 73rd minute, a goal that made the score 5-3 on aggregate in favour of the Premier League leaders.

However, some determined attacking from Real combined with shaky defending from the Citizens saw the home side force the tie into extra-time through two Rodrygo goals, before Carlo Ancelotti's men completed their comeback when Karim Benzema scored from the spot.

Guardiola has since admitted that his team were not at their best and that "it is normal" that his players felt overwhelming pressure due to the enormity of the situation.

"We didn't play our best, but it is normal, in a semi-final, the players feel the pressure and wanting to do it," Guardiola told BT Sport.

"Football is unpredictable, it is a game like this. We have to accept it.

"After we scored the goal we were better. We found out tempo and our game, and the players were comfortable.

"It is not like in the last 10 minutes they attack and attack, and you suffer. It didn't happen.

"They put a lot of players in the box, with (Eder) Militao, Rodrygo, Vinicius (Junior), Benzema and they put in crosses and scored two goals."

With their European dream over, at least this season, City will turn their focus to their remaining four league matches as they aim to defend their title of being English champions.

Real, meanwhile, will take on Liverpool in the final of the competition on 28 May.
