The group stages proved to be nothing short of entertaining, with some of Europes best clubs and players putting on a show for the returning supporters who missed out last season.

The last 16 will see a couple big names missing out, as five-time winners FC Barcelona, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund finished and Serie A side AC Milan missed out on a spot in the knockout round this campaign.

Liverpool, Ajax Amsterdam and Bayern Munich were the only teams make it through to round of 16 with a perfect record in the group stages.

Ajax's fine run was largely inspired by the form of Ivory Coast international Sebastian Haller, who has netted 10 goals in six group stage appearances.

Haller, however, finished as the second top scorer in the group stages behind Robert Lewandowski who netted 11 goals for the Bavarians.
