The Reds found themselves in a tricky situation following the first half against Villarreal, whose fiery start to the clash earned them a 2-0 lead in front of their home support.
Goals from striker Boulaye Dia and midfielder Francis Coquelin turned the tie level after Liverpool's 2-0 win at Anfield last week, but Luis Diaz's introduction to the game in the second half appeared to provide Jurgen Klopp's side with an immediate lift.
Brazil international Fabinho got the Reds back in front on aggregate in the 62nd minute, before Diaz equalised the score on the night just five minutes later when he got on the end of a brilliant Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.
Seven minutes later, it was Sadio Mane's turn to get in on the action when a goalkeeping error from Geronimo Rulli gifted the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner a simple chance to find the open net.
Speaking after their 3-2 victory in Spain, one that will see Liverpool go for their seventh European crown, Salah said he would like to play against Real Madrid in the final.
"Yeah, I want to play Madrid," he told BT Sport.
"City is a really tough team, we've played against them a few times this season. If you ask me personally, I'd prefer Madrid.
"We lost in the final against them, so I want to play against them and hopefully win it from them as well."
The Reds suffered defeat against Los Blancos in the 2017/18 final, but claimed the 2018/19 UCL title following a routine 2-0 win over Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur the following season.
Liverpool Advance To UCL Final After Impressive Comeback
City, meanwhile, lost to Chelsea in the final of the tournament just last year, and will be desperate to defend their 4-3 aggregate lead over Los Blancos on Wednesday night, with the LaLiga giants intent on giving themselves the opportunity to go for a record-extending 14th European medal.
