A tense football match ensued at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, with Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone facing off in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Foden came off the bench for the Citizens in the 68th minute, and it took the Englishman a mere two minutes to play Kevin De Bruyne in to break the deadlock and put the reigning Premier League champions a goal up going into the second leg.
The 21-year-old left many in the football fraternity mesmerised with his cameo, not least of whom was former England defender Joleon Lescott.
"Phil Foden is associated with Man City and I know what it means for him to play for the club," the former Everton centre-back said on BT Sports.
"If he continues at this rate, he goes down as the best English player of all time with two trophies a season.
"His mentality sets him apart. If you compare him with someone like Wayne Rooney, you can see players who are hurt when they don't win. He is obsessed, I love what I do but he needs to do it."

City's next match is against Liverpool in the league, a team they lead by just a single point on the log.
Foden seemingly loves playing against the team from Merseyside, though, having found the back of the net on three occasions and provided two assists in the four matches he has played against them – the best goal contribution record he has against any side (along with Brighton Hove Albion).
