In 2017, Barcelona overturned a 4-0 deficit to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the UEFA Champions League at the round of 16 stage with an aggregate score of 6-5. Edinson Cavani has now revealed how that famous result affected his mental health.
'Messi Shouldn't Spoil His Barca Legacy Like Ronaldo Did At Man Utd'
In the first leg of the last-16 tie, the French giants famously defeated the Catalan giants 4-0 to give themselves a great chance of making it to the quarter-finals of the tournament, but it was not to be.
In the reverse fixture at the Camp Nou, an early Luis Suarez goal inspired the Blaugrana to one of the most incredible comebacks in Champions League history, with a late Neymar brace and a stoppage-time winner from Sergi Roberto sealing the victory.
Earlier in the game, then-PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa had put the ball into his own net, while Lionel Messi had converted a penalty to set up a thrilling last 30 minutes of the encounter.
PSG's collapse had dire consequences for the club and its players, with Cavani having now revealed how the outcome of that tie five years ago impacted his mental health.
"I went to therapy after Barca's comeback against PSG," he said, according to Barca Universal.
"Barca's comeback at PSG affected me so much. It's only football, but it affects you as a person.
"After that, I had anxiety symptoms, cold sweats, and I would get dizzy before sleeping and I was scared of falling asleep.
"I would ask myself: Am I sick in the head?"

Cavani spent another three years at the French giants before joining Manchester United as a free agent in 2020, leaving the Ligue 1 club as their all-time record goalscorer with 200 strikes in 301 appearances.
