Transfer Update: Haaland

Transfer Update: Haaland

Manchester City have reportedly found a long-term replacement for Erling Haaland.

There has reportedly been a key development in Erling Haaland's future at Manchester City amid rumours that a long-term replacement for him has already been found.

According to FootballTransfers, the Citizens are planning to cash in on the Norwegian "sooner rather than later" amid serious interest in the forward's signature from Real Madrid.

It is suggested that the signing of Haaland, who has already scored 42 goals this season, was driven by director of football Txiki Begiristain more so than it was encouraged by head coach Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish tactician reportedly does not see the 22-year-old as a long-term striker option for his side after spending the previous campaign without a recognised centre-forward in his starting XI for the majority of matches.

Furthermore, there is believed to be concrete interest from Los Blancos, who could look to pounce when the Norway international's reported release clause of €200 million (R3.8 billion) becomes active in 2024.

Guardiola is also said to have spent a lot of time monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Cameroon-born striker Youssoufa Moukoko and sees him as a potential long-term replacement for his former BVB colleague.

City's apparent plan is to make a significant profit from the future sale of Haaland, who was signed in July for just €60 million (R1.1 billion).

The ex-Red Bull Salzburg goalscorer was heavily linked with the Spanish giants last year but ended up joining City after the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners thought they would be signing Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe.
