Following the expiration of his deal at Paris Saint-Germain, the 36-year-old publicly declared his intention to join the Florida-based outfit following the club's four-year long pursuit of his signature.

In the same week of his announcement, it appeared the Argentine was set to make a stunning return to the Catalan giants, whose head coach Xavi Hernandez was said to be pushing for Messi's arrival after private talks with his former teammate.

It was not to be, however, as the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner revealed that his difficult time in Paris greatly influenced his call to take his career to the MLS.
