Inter Milan claimed the spoils in the Milan derby after Mauro Icardi struck in the dying stages of the game to secure a 1-0 win over AC Milan on Sunday evening.
Inter had the ball in the back of the net after 12 minutes, with Icardi volleying home but the goal was chalked off for offside.
It was an evenly contested affair, but Inter had the better of the chances as Stefan de Vrij forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into a fine save with a towering header.
However, Luciano Spaletti was forced into a change after 30 minutes as Borja Valero replaced Radja Nainggolan, just minutes before Icardi rattled the woodwork with a powerful volley.
Milan had the ball the in the back of the net three minutes before the halftime break but Mateo Musacchio's header at the far post was flagged for offside.
It was Inter who made the better start to the second half and they carved out an opening after 57 minutes but Matteo Politano failed to direct his volley on target at the far post.
Ivan Perisic, who endured a quiet evening for Inter, was withdrawn after 72 minutes to make way for Senegal international Keita Balde who is yet to hit the ground running since his move from AS Monaco.
With time running out, neither side looked like bagging a winning goal, although Inter did see more of the possession in the closing stages.
However, Inter struck the winning goal two minutes into time added on when Donnarumma's failed attempt to catch Matías Vecino's cross allowed Icardi to nod into an empty net for three points.
