Deschamps Breaks Silence On Pogba's Doping Scandal

Deschamps Breaks Silence On Pogba's Doping Scandal

France manager Didier Deschamps has broken his silence on Paul Pogba's failed drug test amid rumours the ex-Manchester United midfielder is facing a four-year ban from football.

Speaking after Les Bleus' 2-1 loss to Germany in an international friendly on Tuesday night, the 54-year-old was asked about the Juventus star's future after he tested positive for testosterone last month.

If it is found that he doped intentionally, reports suggest Pogba could be handed a suspension from the sport of up to four years, in what would be a significant blow to the 30-year-old who has made just 12 appearances for his club since August last year.

"I don't know all the facts. It's still an ongoing process," Deschamps, who handed Pogba his international debut in 2013, said to TF1.

"But there are so many bad things happening for Paul at the moment… It's tough."

He was then asked if he believes the former Red Devil would have purposely taken performance-enhancing drugs.

"I still remember discussions with him relating to COVID and vaccination," Deschamps added.

"But the metabolites were there. As to know why and how, I don't think he himself knows, unfortunately.

"It's tough for him, I've always backed him. It's another setback for him."
