On Friday, L'Equipe reported that reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have activated Marc Roca's €40 million (R672 million) release clause to sign the midfielder from Espanyol.

Los Blancos were previously cited with an interest in the Spanish youngster, but appear to have missed out on their man after Bayern matched Espanyol's asking price.

Roca will reportedly join the Bavarians on a five-year contract, and become the club's seventh signing of the window after Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez, Jann-Fiete Arp, Ivan Perisic, Philippe Coutinho and Mickael Cuisance.

Bayern reportedly see the 22-year-old as a direct replacement for Portuguese starlet Renato Sanches, who is said to be closing in on a €25 million (R420 million) move to Ligue 1 side Lille.
