The Liga BBVA ambassador visited South Africa for the inaugural La Liga Free Fan Day event in Cape Town and sat down with our international editor David Kappel.
In an insightful interview, Kluivert explained why Messi and Ronaldo make each other better.
"I think it's a battle between two giants," he said.
"If one didn't have the other, he wouldn't get 'triggered' about scoring more goals, getting one Ballon d'Or more.
"I think it's a healthy competition between those two, because those two are really amazing.
"Let's be honest, we have Messi, Ronaldo and then there is a huge gap until the rest of the world is coming.
"And to be able to watch two superstars at such a high level at the same time is just amazing from my point of view."
Kluivert scored 109 goals in 228 games for the Catalan giants, and hit the back of the net 231 times in 517 senior appearances during his illustrious career.
