The 28-year-old struck an important hat-trick in the Selecao's 4-2 victory over Peru in their latest 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Wednesday morning, which saw him become his country's second-best international scorer in history.
With 64 goals, Neymar is now two strikes ahead of ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan striker Ronaldo, and the Paris Saint-Germain forward even prepared a tribute for him as he broke his record.
After scoring the first goal of his hat-trick in the first half against Peru, Neymar held up nine fingers to salute Ronaldo, who is also referred to as "R9", and then took to Twitter after the game to tweet: "All my respect for you, PHENOMENON."
