Messi scored his first goal for Barcelona on 1 May 2005, when he was 17 years 10 months and seven days old, becoming the youngest player to ever score for Barcelona, until the record was broken by Bojan Krkic in 2007. Messi scored his first Champions League goal on 2 November 2005 in the 5-0 win over Panathinaikos.
Over the next season, Messi started to establish himself as a first team player at the club, providing support to Ronaldinho in Frank Rijkaard's team that secured a League and Champions League title in 2006.
However, problems with injuries prevented him from spending enough time on the pitch to take on an fully established role in the first team. He only managed to score his 50th goal for the club on 22 October 2008, where he found the net in Barcelona's 5-0 demolition of FC Basel in the Champions League.
On 16 January 2010, Messi, who had already won the Ballon d'Or, scored his 100th goal for the club in a 4-0 win over Sevilla. Then he scored a hat-trick in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Plzen on 1 November 2011 to score his 200th goal for the club.
In Barcelona's 4-0 win over Espanyol on 5 May 2012, Messi scored all four goals to reach the 250 goal mark for the club. Then in Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Grenada on 16 February 2013, Messi found the net to score his 300th goal. Messi scored his 350th goal in Barcelona's 3-1 win over Betis on 5 April 2014.
Then, Messi netted his 400th goal against Valencia in Saturday's clash against Valencia, helping his team to retain the lead at the top of La Liga over arch rivals, Real Madrid, who Messi has scored 21 goals against in 30 appearances.
